Cochise vs Central Arizona

COOLIDGE, Ariz. (Interstat) — The Cochise Apaches visit the Central Arizona Vaqueros on Wednesday in a men’s junior college basketball matchup with both teams seeking momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.

Cochise (14-9) enters on a four-game winning streak, including a 76-71 victory over Eastern Arizona on Saturday. The Apaches have won both meetings against Central Arizona this season, most recently a 95-86 home win on Feb. 7.

Central Arizona (9-16) snapped a five-game skid with a 66-56 win over Yavapai on Saturday. The Vaqueros will look to defend their home court and avoid a season sweep.

A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top performers. Cochise guard Davon Jones is averaging 18.1 points over his last seven games, including a 25-point effort in the latest win. He scored 15 points in the Feb. 7 meeting against Central Arizona.

For the Vaqueros, forward Brayden Gant has been a consistent force, posting a triple-double of 14 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists in his last outing. He torched Cochise for 31 points and 10 rebounds in the previous matchup.

Cochise’s recent surge has been fueled by offensive balance. Alongside Jones, Jhace Johnson scored 23 points and Teron Murray added 11 points and 7 rebounds against Eastern Arizona.

Central Arizona’s win over Yavapai showcased improved defense, holding an opponent under 60 points for the first time since December. Nathan Wanjohi (14 points) and Tayshaun Jackson (11 points) provided scoring support for Gant.

Tip-off is set for Wednesday night at the George Young Activity Center. Cochise visits Yavapai on Saturday, while Central Arizona travels to Southern Nevada.
