Panola vs Kilgore

KILGORE, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Kilgore College squad, ranked among the nation’s elite junior college teams, will host a Panola College team seeking a season-defining upset when the Rangers meet the Ponies in a men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night.

Kilgore (20-3) enters the contest riding a seven-game winning streak, having last lost on Jan. 14. Their recent run includes tight victories over quality opponents, edging Blinn 63-62 on Feb. 14 and grinding out a 64-58 win at Navarro on Feb. 18. The Rangers’ success is built on balance and defense, holding foes to an average of 62.1 points during their streak.

A key orchestrator for Kilgore is guard Kaiden Myers, who has been a model of consistency. Over his last six games, Myers has averaged 10.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, filling the stat sheet as a primary facilitator. In the Rangers’ 73-62 win at Lamar State-Port Arthur on Saturday, Myers posted 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and a block.

Panola (14-11) looks to bounce back from a 73-60 home loss to Trinity Valley this past Saturday. The Ponies had won four of their previous five before that setback. Their hopes will lean heavily on forward Tait Spencer, who has been on a scoring tear. Spencer has averaged 16.0 points over his last six games, including a 15-point, eight-rebound effort in 34 minutes against Trinity Valley.

The matchup presents a stark contrast in season trajectories. Kilgore has dominated conference play, while Panola has battled inconsistency, alternating wins and losses in its last seven outings. The Rangers won the first meeting this season, 74-66, on Jan. 7.

For Panola, containing Myers’ all-around game and finding secondary scoring behind Spencer will be critical. For Kilgore, maintaining defensive intensity to disrupt the Ponies’ rhythm is the priority as they aim to protect their home court and solidify their top-tier standing.

The game tips off at 7 p.m. CST on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Masters Gymnasium. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Carthage on Saturday, March 7.
