Tallahassee State vs Chipola
Preview: Tallahassee State Eagles at Chipola Indians
MARIANA, Fla. (Interstat) — Two of the top teams in the Panhandle Conference will clash Wednesday when the Chipola Indians host the Tallahassee State Eagles in a pivotal men’s junior college basketball matchup.
Chipola (20-6) enters with a narrow edge in the standings and confidence from two previous victories over Tallahassee State (18-5) this season. The Indians won 77-61 at home on Jan. 21 and escaped with a 72-71 road win on Feb. 11. The Eagles, however, are riding a three-game winning streak, including a dramatic 66-65 victory over Gulf Coast State last Saturday.
The rematch carries significant postseason implications, with both teams jockeying for position in the regional rankings. Chipola’s defense was dominant in the last meeting, holding Tallahassee State to 47 points in a 78-47 rout on Feb. 11.
A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s standout forwards. Tallahassee State’s Ja’Kwon Moore has been on a tear, averaging 16 points and 7.7 rebounds over his last three games, including a 20-point, 7-rebound performance in an overtime win at Pensacola State. He scored 12 points in the Feb. 11 loss to Chipola.
For Chipola, Aaron Richard has been a consistent contributor. He posted 16 points and six rebounds in a win over Pensacola State on Feb. 14 and added 11 points in the road win at Tallahassee State earlier this month.
The Eagles will look for more support around Moore, who was aided by Orion Wilson (12 points, 8 rebounds) and Cedric Taylor (11 points, 5 rebounds) in the narrow win over Gulf Coast State. Chipola, coming off a 78-68 road win at Gulf Coast State on Feb. 18, has won four of its last five.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. EST at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center. The game will be the final regular-season meeting between the rivals this year. Chipola’s next game is at Northwest Florida State on Saturday, Feb. 28.
