Kankakee vs Triton

KANKAKEE, Ill. (Interstat) — A pivotal late-season men’s junior college basketball matchup is set for Tuesday when the Kankakee Cavaliers visit the Triton Trojans. The game features two teams heading in opposite directions as the regular season winds down.

Kankakee (14-7) enters with momentum, having won four of its last five games, including a dominant 89-51 victory over Kennedy-King on Saturday. The Cavaliers’ offense has been potent, scoring over 100 points twice in their last six outings. They will rely on forward Adrien Armstrong, who is coming off a 14-point, 8-rebound performance in limited minutes last time out. Armstrong has shown flashes of double-double capability this season.

Conversely, Triton (12-12) has struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over its past seven games. The Trojans are fresh off a 96-76 win over Malcolm X, powered by a spectacular 34-point, 10-rebound effort from forward Papa Kounta. Kounta has been a force, averaging over 24 points in his last four contests and recording a double-double in three of them. His matchup with Armstrong will be a key battle in the paint.

The Cavaliers won the season’s first meeting, 88-80, on Dec. 13. Triton will look to avenge that loss and level its record at home.

A statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a nail-biter, simulating a 100-100 tie. For that to materialize, Triton must contain Kankakee’s balanced attack, which saw Ricardo Corvil (7 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Nashawn Holmes (17 points) contribute significantly in the last game. The Trojans will need support for Kounta, with players like Matt Sullivan (18 points vs. Malcolm X) providing secondary scoring.

Tip-off is scheduled for Tuesday night at Triton College. The Cavaliers host Malcolm X next on Thursday, while the Trojans travel to face Wilbur Wright.
