New Mexico Military vs Frank Phillips
BORGER, Texas (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking to halt lengthy slides will meet Monday when the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen host the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos.
The game, scheduled for Feb. 23, 2026, at the Frank Phillips campus in Borger, features a rematch from just over a month ago. On Jan. 22, the Broncos edged the Plainsmen 69-62 in Roswell, New Mexico.
Both squads enter on significant losing streaks. New Mexico Military (10-15) has dropped six consecutive games since that Jan. 22 victory. Their most recent outing was a 94-79 home loss to Midland College on Feb. 19. Frank Phillips (7-17) has lost three straight and five of its last six, including an 85-68 defeat to Odessa College on Feb. 19.
A key matchup will be between the teams’ top offensive threats. Broncos guard Taye Williams is coming off a season-high 25-point performance in the loss to Midland. Over his last six games, Williams has averaged 15.2 points, showing he can carry the scoring load. For the Plainsmen, forward Nehemiah Holmes is capable of a breakout night, as evidenced by his 20-point, 7-rebound effort against Odessa. Consistency has been an issue, however, as his scoring has fluctuated dramatically in recent contests.
Beyond the star players, both teams have struggled to find consistent support. In the Jan. 22 meeting, the Broncos’ defense managed to contain Holmes, holding him to nine points. Replicating that effort will be crucial for NMMI. Frank Phillips will look to protect its home court and avenge the earlier loss, potentially by exploiting its interior size, where Holmes and others have shown rebounding ability.
The Plainsmen’s last win was a narrow 62-59 road victory at Clarendon on Feb. 9. The Broncos’ last victory remains their win over Frank Phillips. With the regular season winding down, Monday’s contest represents a critical opportunity for either team to build momentum and reverse a troubling trend before the postseason.
