Southern Nevada vs Arizona Western
YUMA, Ariz. (Interstat) — The Arizona Western Matadors look to continue their dominance over the Southern Nevada Coyotes when the men’s junior college basketball teams meet Saturday at The House.
The Matadors (17-7), who have won seven of their last nine games, have handled the Coyotes (8-11) decisively in two meetings this season. Arizona Western won 95-76 at home on Jan. 17, then posted a 93-73 victory in North Las Vegas on Feb. 4.
Southern Nevada, however, enters with momentum from an 86-66 home win over Yavapai on Wednesday. The Coyotes’ Gerald Patterson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds in that victory, adding seven assists. Over his last seven games, Patterson is averaging 16.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest. He scored 24 points in the most recent loss to Arizona Western.
The Matadors are coming off a rare lopsided defeat, falling 110-84 at Cochise on Wednesday. Standout Illiam Fevry scored 24 points in that loss, continuing a strong stretch. In his last five games, Fevry is averaging 14.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists. He had 13 points and seven rebounds in the Feb. 4 win over Southern Nevada.
Arizona Western’s offense, which averages over 86 points per game, will test a Southern Nevada defense that has allowed 93 and 95 points in the two head-to-head matchups this season. The Coyotes have shown recent improvement, winning two of their last four.
Saturday’s game is the regular-season finale between the teams. Southern Nevada visits Eastern Arizona next Wednesday, while Arizona Western travels to face Yavapai.
