Dodge City vs Garden City

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (Interstat) — A key men’s junior college basketball matchup in the Jayhawk Conference is set for Saturday when the Garden City Broncbusters host the Dodge City Conquistadors at Conestoga Arena.

The Conquistadors (19-9) enter with the superior record and momentum from a narrow 68-67 road win at Fort Hays Tech on Wednesday. The Broncbusters (15-10) look to rebound from a 100-76 loss at Cowley the same night.

Dodge City won the first meeting this season, 92-83 at home on Jan. 7. To secure a regular-season sweep, they will rely on forward Wesly Rosa, a defensive force who is coming off a 10-point, 14-rebound, five-block performance against Fort Hays Tech. Over his last three games, Rosa has averaged 8.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks.

Garden City will counter with guard Jamir Westry, a consistent offensive contributor. Westry has scored 12 points in three of his last four outings, including a 12-point, nine-assist effort in a high-scoring loss to Barton on Feb. 14. His playmaking will be crucial against Dodge City’s defense.

The game features a contrast in recent trajectories. Dodge City has won two straight and four of its last six. Garden City has dropped two consecutive games, allowing an average of 112 points in those losses, after a three-game winning streak.

A victory would bolster seeding for the upcoming Region VI tournament for both squads. For Dodge City, it would solidify a strong conference finish. For Garden City, it’s a chance to stabilize its defense and earn a resume-building win against a team ahead in the standings.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST on Saturday, Feb. 21.
