Olive-Harvey vs Wilbur Wright
Preview: Olive-Harvey Panthers at Wilbur Wright Rams
CHICAGO (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Saturday when the surging Olive-Harvey Panthers visit the struggling Wilbur Wright Rams in a men’s junior college basketball game.
The Panthers (14-3) enter the contest riding a three-game winning streak and sit near the top of the conference standings. The Rams (0-14), meanwhile, are still searching for their first victory of the season.
Olive-Harvey, which defeated Kennedy-King 88-81 on Feb. 17, boasts a balanced and high-scoring attack. In that win, Lawrence Etling Jr. led all scorers with 24 points, while Marcus Browder added 12 points and six assists. A key catalyst is guard Terrence Shannon, who posted 19 points, six rebounds and five assists against Kennedy-King. Shannon also recorded a near triple-double in the teams’ first meeting this season, tallying 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in just 18 minutes during a 90-63 Panthers victory over Wilbur Wright on Feb. 3.
The Rams have faced consistent challenges, losing their last game to Kankakee 105-65 on Feb. 10. Defense has been a particular issue, as Wilbur Wright has allowed an average of 86.4 points per game during its winless campaign. In the Feb. 3 matchup, the Rams were outscored by 27 points.
History heavily favors the visitors. The Panthers have won seven of their last eight games, with their only loss in that span a 103-88 defeat at Malcolm X on Jan. 29. Wilbur Wright’s most competitive recent performance was a five-point loss to Kennedy-King on Feb. 5.
For the Rams to be competitive, they must find a way to contain Olive-Harvey’s transition game and multiple scoring options. For the Panthers, avoiding complacency against an overmatched opponent will be the primary focus as they look to maintain momentum before a road game at Harry S Truman on Feb. 24.
Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon at Wilbur Wright College.
