Mississippi Delta vs Itawamba

FULTON, Miss. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Thursday when the surging Itawamba Indians host the struggling Mississippi Delta Trojans in a men’s junior college basketball matchup.

The game, set for Feb. 19, 2026, pits an Itawamba squad (16-6) firmly in the playoff picture against a Mississippi Delta team (1-10) mired in a lengthy losing skid. The Indians have won four of their last five contests, most recently a 79-64 home victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast on Feb. 12. Their balanced attack has consistently produced points, scoring 75 or more in eight of their wins.

Conversely, the Trojans enter on a nine-game losing streak. Their lone victory came back on Dec. 6, 2025, a 109-92 road win at Northwest Mississippi. Mississippi Delta is coming off a 65-55 home loss to Holmes on Monday, a game that typified their season struggles. During their current slide, they have allowed an average of 80.2 points per game.

Itawamba’s recent success has been built on strong home-court play and victories over quality opponents, including a 75-74 road win at Jones and an 80-69 victory at Pearl River in late January. Guarding the perimeter will be a key, as the Indians have shown the ability to score in bunches.

For Mississippi Delta, finding an answer defensively is the urgent priority. The Trojans have conceded 83 points or more in five of their ten losses this season. Offensive consistency has also been elusive; since their sole win, they have not scored more than 77 points in a game.

The Indians won the first meeting this season decisively, 102-71, on Jan. 8 in Fulton. Itawamba will look to replicate that performance and maintain momentum before a key road test at East Mississippi on Monday. Mississippi Delta seeks any spark to reverse its trajectory before returning home to face Coahoma on Feb. 23.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Davis Event Center on the Itawamba Community College campus.
