Jones vs Pearl River

BOBCATS, WILDCATS SET FOR THURSDAY SHOWDOWN

POPLARVILLE, Miss. (Interstat) — A surging Jones College squad aims to continue its winning ways against a struggling Pearl River Community College team in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Thursday night.

The Jones Bobcats (16-7) visit the Pearl River Wildcats (8-11) in a conference clash. Jones enters on a two-game win streak following a 78-69 victory over Copiah-Lincoln on Monday. Pearl River looks to rebound from a narrow 70-69 road loss to Meridian that same day.

The game features a compelling contrast in momentum. Jones has won seven of its last ten games, displaying a potent offense that has scored 88 or more points in five of those contests. Pearl River has found consistency harder to secure, alternating wins and losses over its past six outings.

A key player to watch is Jones forward Dylan Rowe, who is coming off a 23-point, 9-rebound performance against Copiah-Lincoln. Over his last six games, Rowe is averaging 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4.7 assists, including a 31-point outburst against Holmes on Jan. 29.

Pearl River will counter with guard Christian Gilliland, its leading offensive threat in recent weeks. Gilliland has topped 20 points in three of his last four games, including a 25-point effort in a win over Copiah-Lincoln on Feb. 9. His scoring punch will be vital for the Wildcats’ chances.

In their last meeting, historical data indicates a competitive series. Both teams will look to this game as a pivotal point in the late-season conference schedule. For Jones, it’s a chance to solidify its standing, while Pearl River seeks a signature win to turn its season around.

Tip-off is set for Thursday, Feb. 19, at Marvin R. White Coliseum. Jones’s next game is at home against Meridian on Feb. 23. Pearl River hosts Hinds on Feb. 26.
