Yavapai vs Southern Nevada

LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — The College of Southern Nevada men’s basketball team used a dominant first-half offensive display to secure an 86-66 victory over Yavapai College in a junior college matchup on Wednesday night.

The Coyotes, led by a standout performance from Gerald Patterson, avenged a road loss to the Roughriders from earlier this season. Southern Nevada improved its overall record to 8-11, while Yavapai fell to 5-14.

The game was decided in a blistering opening half where Southern Nevada’s shooting proved overwhelming. The Coyotes connected on 13 three-pointers in the game, building a commanding 86-41 lead by halftime. Yavapai, despite a strong individual effort, could not match the home team’s pace or efficiency. Southern Nevada finished the game with an offensive rating of 111.0 points per 100 possessions, significantly outpacing Yavapai’s rating of 88.0.

The most important part of the game was Southern Nevada’s immediate and sustained response after Yavapai scored the opening basket. The Coyotes quickly erased the early deficit with a barrage of three-pointers, primarily from Maximus Romero and Ryan Raad. This early surge established a tempo and a lead that Yavapai never threatened. A critical sequence occurred midway through the first quarter when, after a Yavapai timeout trailing 21-14, Southern Nevada continued its run, extending the lead to double digits and never allowing it to dip below 10 points again. The Coyotes’ ability to consistently answer any minimal Roughrider momentum with a three-pointer or a transition basket effectively ended the contest long before halftime.

Gerald Patterson was the top star for Southern Nevada, posting a double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. He was one of five Coyotes to score in double figures. Maximus Romero and Ryan Raad each added 17 points, with Romero hitting five three-pointers. Demarion Yap contributed 15 points and Ivoryon Cuffee came off the bench to score 12.

Yavapai was carried by the duo of Rudolfs Svitins and Jason Parent. Svitins scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Parent recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. The rest of the Roughriders combined for just 16 points on inefficient shooting. Yavapai struggled from beyond the arc, making only 4 of 18 attempts, and from the free-throw line, converting just 12 of 21.

Southern Nevada won the battle on the boards 41-38 and forced 17 Yavapai turnovers while committing 15. Both teams were even in assists, steals, blocks and personal fouls.

The victory splits the season series between the two teams, with each winning on its home court. Southern Nevada next travels to face Arizona Western on Saturday. Yavapai will look to rebound on the road at Central Arizona, also on Saturday.
