Independence vs Seward County
LIBERAL, Kan. (Interstat) — A tight conference race and a recent overtime thriller set the stage for Wednesday’s men’s junior college basketball clash between the visiting Independence Pirates and the Seward County Saints.
The Pirates (12-9) travel to The Greenhouse looking to complete a regular-season sweep after edging the Saints 87-83 in overtime on Jan. 3. Independence, however, enters on a two-game skid, including a 93-88 home loss to Butler (Kan.) on Feb. 11.
Independence’s offense runs through sophomore David Wilson, who is in the midst of a dominant stretch. He is averaging 18.7 points over his last seven games, highlighted by a 27-point, 4-rebound, 3-block performance in the recent loss to Butler. His defensive presence has been consistent, recording multiple blocks in four of those contests.
The Saints (16-10) aim to defend their home court and snap a three-game losing streak of their own, the latest a narrow 94-93 road defeat at Butler on Feb. 14. Sophomore guard Bailey Milligan was a bright spot in that loss, scoring 21 points. His production has been variable, but he has shown high-scoring capability with 20-point outings against Butler and Colby this month.
Seward County holds the overall season record advantage, but both teams have experienced similar conference struggles lately. The Saints’ home victory over Pratt, 84-62, on Feb. 4 shows their potential when executing at a high level.
For Independence, supporting Wilson’s efforts will be key. Lonnie Bass Jr. recorded a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double against Butler, providing crucial interior help.
The Jan. 3 meeting proved these teams are evenly matched, and Wednesday’s rematch carries implications for postseason seeding. The Saints will seek to leverage their home-court advantage and reverse their recent fortunes, while the Pirates aim to reignite their winning form behind Wilson’s two-way prowess.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026.
