Garden City vs Cowley

Preview: Garden City at Cowley in Key JUCO Matchup

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams on the postseason bubble will clash Wednesday when the Garden City Broncbusters visit the Cowley Tigers.

The game, scheduled for Feb. 18, 2026, features teams with nearly identical records. Garden City enters at 15-9 overall, while Cowley sits at 14-9. Both squads are looking to rebound from recent losses and improve their standing in a competitive conference.

The Broncbusters are coming off a high-scoring 124-108 defeat to Barton on Saturday. In that game, forward Nico Doume shined with 22 points and nine rebounds in just 20 minutes. Doume has been a key performer for Garden City, posting a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Independence on Feb. 7. His consistent production inside will be a focal point for the Broncbusters’ offense.

Cowley fell 89-82 at Fort Hays Tech on Sunday, despite a strong all-around effort from guard Kyden Thompson. Thompson logged 31 minutes, contributing 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and three blocks. His ability to impact the game on both ends makes him a primary player to watch for the Tigers.

The season’s first meeting between these teams was a nail-biter. Garden City edged Cowley 83-82 at home on Jan. 3, suggesting another tightly contested matchup is likely.

For Garden City, support for Doume often comes from guards like Michael Solaja, who scored 16 points against Barton, and Jamir Westry, who dished out nine assists in that same game. Cowley will look for additional scoring from Leslie Owens Jr., who had 17 points against Fort Hays Tech, and CJ Majors.

The outcome could hinge on which team better controls the tempo. Garden City has shown a potent offense, scoring over 100 points in three of its last five games, but also surrendered 124 in its last outing. Cowley has demonstrated a more defensive posture recently, holding its last three opponents under 90 points prior to the Fort Hays Tech game.

Wednesday’s contest represents a critical opportunity for both clubs to secure a quality win as the regular season enters its final stretch. Following this game, Garden City hosts Dodge City on Feb. 21, while Cowley returns home to face Butler (Kan.) on the same date.
