Tallahassee State vs Pensacola State

TALLAHASSEE STATE EAGLES AT PENSACOLA STATE PIRATES

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Interstat) — A pivotal Panhandle Conference men’s junior college basketball rematch is set for Wednesday when the Tallahassee State Eagles visit the Pensacola State Pirates.

The Eagles (16-5) enter with the superior overall record, but the season series is split 1-1, setting the stage for a decisive third meeting. Tallahassee State won the most recent matchup 71-65 at home on Jan. 31, but Pensacola State (12-11) handed the Eagles their most lopsided loss of the conference season, 72-57, on Jan. 14 in Pensacola.

Tallahassee State aims to build momentum after a narrow 73-69 victory over Northwest Florida State on Saturday. Cole Crissman was key in that win, posting 13 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes. The forward’s production has been inconsistent, however, with several recent outings of limited minutes and scoring. His performance against the Pirates in January was modest (2 points, 6 rebounds).

Pensacola State looks to rebound from a 71-59 road loss to Chipola on Saturday. The Pirates have struggled offensively in conference play, failing to reach 70 points in five of their last six games. Player to watch Deven Bates logged only one minute in the loss to Chipola, and his impact in this rivalry game remains a question.

The Eagles’ offense runs through guard Rodmik Allen, who played all 40 minutes and dished out eight assists in Saturday’s win. Forward Orion Wilson adds a scoring and rebounding presence, coming off a 16-point, eight-rebound performance.

For Pensacola State, sustaining the defensive intensity from their January home win, where they held Tallahassee to 57 points, will be critical. The Pirates must find more consistent scoring to keep pace with a Tallahassee team averaging over 70 points per game in conference play.

Wednesday’s winner gains a crucial advantage in the conference standings with the regular season winding down. Tallahassee State visits Gulf Coast State on Saturday, while Pensacola State travels to Northwest Florida State.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. EST at Lou Ross Arena.
