Lamar State-Port Arthur vs Blinn
Preview: Lamar State-Port Arthur Seahawks at Blinn Buccaneers
BRENHAM, Texas (Interstat) — The Blinn College Buccaneers look to solidify their winning season record and rebound from a narrow defeat when they host the struggling Lamar State-Port Arthur Seahawks in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Wednesday.
The Buccaneers (13-8) enter the contest having won five of their last seven games, despite a heartbreaking 63-62 road loss to Kilgore on Saturday. Blinn’s offense is powered by sophomore guard Dashawn Ceaser, who is averaging 21.4 points over his last five games. Ceaser scored 23 points in the loss to Kilgore and erupted for 32 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a win over Tyler on Feb. 7.
Conversely, the Seahawks (5-13) seek to halt a four-game skid, most recently a 78-62 home loss to Tyler on Saturday. Their season has been marked by inconsistency, with just two victories since the calendar turned to January. Lamar State-Port Arthur will lean on guard Zion Young, who has been a bright spot. Young is averaging 17.3 points per game over his last six contests and scored 24 in the loss to Tyler.
The lone previous meeting this season provides a glimmer of hope for the visitors. On Dec. 10, Lamar State-Port Arthur upset Blinn 67-63 on its home floor. Replicating that result on the road will be a significant challenge against a Blinn team that is 8-3 at home this season.
For Blinn, the game represents a critical opportunity to maintain momentum in the region standings before a tough road test at Paris on Saturday. For Lamar State-Port Arthur, it is a chance to salvage a split of the season series and build confidence before hosting Kilgore this weekend.
Tipoff is set for Wednesday night at the Kruse Center in Brenham.
