South Georgia State vs South Georgia Tech
SOUTH GEORGIA STATE HAWKS AT SOUTH GEORGIA TECH JETS
Preview
AMERICUS, Ga. (Interstat) — A men’s junior college basketball rematch with playoff implications is set for Wednesday when the South Georgia State Hawks visit the South Georgia Tech Jets.
The Hawks (9-8) enter on a two-game winning streak, including an 86-65 rout of Gordon State on Saturday. They will look to complete a regular-season sweep of the Jets (10-14), whom they defeated 78-53 just over a month ago on Jan. 14.
South Georgia State’s recent success has been fueled by guard Chandler Thomas. The standout is averaging 18.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists over his last four full games, including a 22-point, 6-rebound, 5-assist performance against Gordon State. He was limited to one minute in a Feb. 11 win due to an apparent minor issue but returned to form Saturday.
The Hawks have shown offensive firepower, scoring 122 points in a win over Andrew on Feb. 4, but have also endured close losses, falling by two to Central Georgia on Feb. 7.
South Georgia Tech seeks to even the season series and build momentum after an 88-74 victory over East Georgia State on Saturday. The Jets are led by forward Matt Mbole, who dominated the glass with 18 rebounds in that win. Guard Guillaume Schoentgen added a season-high 29 points, showcasing the team’s potential.
Consistency has been a challenge for the Jets, who followed a 96-point outburst against Georgia Highlands on Jan. 28 with a 63-point effort in a loss to Albany Tech on Feb. 9.
The Hawks currently hold a winning record, while the Jets look to climb back to .500 in conference play. With both teams jockeying for position ahead of the region tournament, this intrastate rivalry carries added weight.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST at the Hangar on the South Georgia Tech campus.
Next Games: South Georgia State hosts Southern Crescent on Saturday. South Georgia Tech hosts Andrew on Saturday.
