Preview: Lake Land at Vincennes in Men’s Junior College Basketball

VINCENNES, Ind. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Wednesday night when the surging Vincennes Trailblazers host the struggling Lake Land Lakers in a men’s junior college basketball matchup.

Vincennes (20-1), one of the nation’s elite teams at the junior college level, enters the contest riding high. Their lone loss came on Jan. 31 against John A. Logan, but they have since responded with two consecutive victories. The Trailblazers’ most recent win was a 74-63 decision over Malcolm X on Saturday, powered by a standout performance from Dayton Williams. The player to watch scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in that contest, solidifying his status as a focal point for the regionally ranked Trailblazers.

Lake Land (4-12), meanwhile, looks to snap a two-game skid and find consistency in the final stretch of the season. The Lakers are coming off a heartbreaking 82-81 home loss to Kaskaskia on Saturday. In that defeat, Loic Affoumon led the Lakers with 18 points and eight rebounds. Affoumon will be a key figure if Lake Land hopes to challenge the formidable Trailblazers.

The teams met earlier this season in a tightly contested overtime battle on Jan. 14. Vincennes escaped Mattoon with a 93-84 victory in that game, suggesting the Lakers can be competitive despite the disparity in records. Replicating that effort on the road, however, presents a significant challenge.

Vincennes has been dominant at home and boasts a balanced attack. Beyond Williams, Drae Vasser (19 points vs. Malcolm X) and Prince Ojukwu (11 rebounds) provide substantial support. Lake Land will need secondary scoring beyond Affoumon, potentially from Keenan Gray (17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists last game) and Lavell Nash, to keep pace.

The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at the Vincennes University Physical Education Complex. Following this contest, Vincennes will travel to face Kaskaskia on Saturday, while Lake Land will visit Southwestern Illinois.
