Indian River State vs Daytona State
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Daytona State squad will look to complete a regular-season sweep when it hosts Indian River State in a Citrus Conference men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday.
The Falcons (17-5) have won seven of their last eight games and are firmly in the conference title chase. They dominated the first meeting, a 95-79 road win on Jan. 21, behind a spectacular 36-point, 8-rebound performance from standout guard Noah Mendy.
Mendy enters this rematch in strong form, averaging 22.3 points over his last three contests. His scoring prowess will be central for a Daytona State offense that has eclipsed 90 points in three of its last five outings, including a 90-62 rout of Polk State last Saturday.
Indian River State (8-10) aims to play spoiler and build on the momentum of a 72-69 victory over Hillsborough last weekend. The Pioneers are led by forward Tamiel Green, who posted a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds in that win. Green will be key in countering Mendy and improving a defense that allowed 95 points in the January loss.
The Pioneers have shown resilience, winning two of their last three games, but consistency has been an issue. They will need a significant defensive effort to slow a potent Falcons attack that averages over 85 points per game.
Daytona State’s depth and home-court advantage at the Lemerand Center make them the favorite, but Indian River State’s recent grit suggests they are capable of a more competitive showing this time around. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Indian River State visits Polk State on Saturday. Daytona State travels to face Florida Southwestern State the same day.
