Williston State vs Dawson

GLENDIVE, Mont. (Interstat) — A key men’s junior college basketball rematch is set for Monday night as the Dawson Buccaneers host the Williston State Tetons.

The game, scheduled for Feb. 16, 2026, at Dawson’s home court, is a chance for the Buccaneers (16-8) to avenge a decisive 86-68 road loss to the Tetons (6-9) just over three weeks ago on Jan. 22.

That previous meeting was dominated by Williston State’s Josiah McDonald, who posted 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. McDonald enters this contest as the focal point for the Tetons, averaging 23.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.0 assists over his last four games. He is coming off a 24-point, 11-rebound, 6-assist performance in an 82-80 road win over Miles on Feb. 5, Williston State’s most recent game.

Dawson, however, has been the more consistent team this season and is fresh off a dominant 134-88 victory at Lake Region State on Feb. 9. In that win, Zakai Owens narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds in just 24 minutes. Owens, a player to watch for the Buccaneers, was held to just 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in the January loss to Williston State and will be looking for a more impactful performance.

The Buccaneers’ season has been marked by strong offensive showings, including four games of 104 points or more since mid-January. Their 16-8 record contrasts with Williston State’s sub-.500 mark, though the Tetons have shown they can compete with top teams, splitting their last four games.

For Williston State, supporting McDonald will be crucial. Andrew Sauer (14 points) and Carson Haerer (12 points) were key contributors in the win over Miles. Dawson will counter with a deeper rotation that saw Brandon Hymes (19 points, 9 rebounds) and Mikey Ngoyi (20 points) excel in the blowout of Lake Region State.

The rematch presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Dawson aims to protect its home floor and solidify its winning record, while Williston State seeks to prove its January victory was no fluke and build momentum from its last-second win at Miles. Tipoff is set for Monday night in Glendive.
