New Mexico Military vs South Plains
LEVELLAND, Texas (Interstat) — A surging South Plains College men’s basketball team looks to continue its winning ways when it hosts a struggling New Mexico Military Institute squad on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at the Texan Dome.
The Texans (18-5) enter on a five-game win streak, most recently defeating Frank Phillips 90-76 on the road Thursday. Forward Micah Bell has been a consistent force during the run, averaging 11.2 points and 6.2 rebounds over the last five contests. In the Feb. 12 victory, Antallah Sandlin’el led all scorers with 22 points.
South Plains defeated the Broncos 74-69 in Roswell, New Mexico, just last month on Jan. 15.
New Mexico Military (10-13) seeks to halt a three-game skid and avenge that earlier loss. The Broncos are coming off a narrow 74-71 home defeat to Clarendon on Thursday, despite a strong performance from forward Carlos Da Mata, who posted 16 points and six rebounds. Da Mata is averaging 10.8 points over his last six games.
The matchup presents a stark contrast in momentum. South Plains has won 10 of its last 12 games, while the Broncos have lost seven of their last nine.
A key battle will be inside, where South Plains’ Bell and Sandlin’el will contend with NMMI’s Da Mata and Joel Pinto, who had 15 points and seven rebounds against Clarendon.
The Texans boast a potent offense, having scored 79 or more points in four of their last five wins. Containing that attack will be the primary challenge for a Broncos team that has struggled to find consistent scoring, held under 65 points in three of its last four losses.
Following this game, South Plains travels to face New Mexico on Thursday, while NMMI hosts Midland.
Tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m. CST at the Texan Dome.
