Western Nebraska vs Southeast

LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet on a neutral court Saturday when the Western Nebraska Cougars face the Southeast Bobcats at Lincoln.

The game, scheduled for Feb. 14, 2026, pits teams with identical overall records but contrasting recent trajectories. Both squads enter at 7-19 overall, but Southeast holds a 7-9 mark in Region IX play, while Western Nebraska’s struggles are more pronounced.

The Bobcats will look to bounce back from a difficult 78-47 home loss to Northeastern (Colo.) on Wednesday. In that defeat, Marquis Toliver led Southeast with 10 points and five rebounds. Toliver remains a key player to watch for the Bobcats.

Western Nebraska arrives after a 90-65 road loss at Lamar on Wednesday. The Cougars have lost three of their last four, with the lone win an 87-78 victory over Otero on Feb. 5. Guard Amare Jackson, who scored 14 points in the loss to Lamar, is Western Nebraska’s primary offensive threat.

This contest serves as a quick rematch. Just under a month ago, on Jan. 17, Southeast edged Western Nebraska 87-84 in a tightly contested game in Cougar territory. The Bobcats will aim for a regular-season sweep, while the Cougars are motivated by the narrow nature of that previous loss.

For Southeast, the neutral site game at Lincoln offers a chance to stabilize after their lopsided loss. Consistency has been an issue; they followed a strong overtime win at Otero on Jan. 30 with a loss to last-place McCook three days later.

Western Nebraska’s challenge will be finding scoring support for Jackson. Dorin Nguema and Isaiah St. Preux provided contributions in the last outing, but the Cougars have allowed 90 points in consecutive games.

The outcome could hinge on which team better controls the tempo and capitalizes on what is expected to be a physical, defensive battle between familiar foes.
