Trinidad State vs Otero

LA JUNTA, Colo. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum in the final stretch of the season will meet Wednesday when the Trinidad State Trojans visit the Otero Rattlers in a men’s junior college basketball matchup.

The Trojans (10-14) enter with a clearer path to a winning record, having won three of their last six games. They are coming off a 78-89 road loss to Northeastern (Colo.) on Feb. 5, where guard Demorae Pritchett scored 19 points in 18 minutes. Pritchett has been a consistent offensive threat, averaging 15.6 points over his last eight games where he saw significant minutes, including an 18-point performance in a Jan. 28 loss at Lamar.

The Rattlers (3-17) have struggled for wins but have shown flashes, including a 72-65 home victory over Lamar on Jan. 31 and an 84-82 win over Western Nebraska on Jan. 24. Their most recent outing was an 87-78 loss at Western Nebraska on Feb. 5, a game in which forward Bertran Walthour Jr. erupted for 27 points and eight rebounds. Walthour has been a bright spot, posting a 31-point, 13-rebound double-double in a Jan. 30 overtime loss to Southeast.

Trinidad State won the first meeting this season, 85-84, on Jan. 9 in Trinidad. The teams will complete the home-and-home series on Feb. 24 in Trinidad.

Wednesday’s contest pits Trinidad State’s recent competitive form against an Otero squad seeking to capitalize on home court. The Rattlers will lean on Walthour’s scoring punch, while the Trojans will look to Pritchett and balance after getting 15 points from Dylan Omweno and six points with four rebounds and two blocks from Sean Spencer in their last game.

A statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a high-scoring, even affair, simulating a 100-100 final score.

The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at the Otero College Gymnasium.
