Wilbur Wright vs Kankakee
KANKAKEE, Ill. (Interstat) — The Kankakee Community College Cavaliers, riding a three-game winning streak, will look to maintain their momentum when they host the struggling Wilbur Wright College Rams in a men’s junior college basketball game Tuesday night.
The matchup at Kankakee’s gymnasium presents a stark contrast in fortunes. The Cavaliers (10-6) are above .500 and coming off a 75-63 victory over Sauk Valley on Saturday. The Rams (0-13), meanwhile, are still searching for their first win of the season. Their most recent outing was a narrow 80-75 home loss to Kennedy-King on Feb. 5, one of their closest defeats this year.
Kankakee dominated the first meeting this season, a 71-43 road win over Wilbur Wright on Jan. 22. Cavaliers forward Santana Flowers had a modest 5 points and 4 rebounds in that contest but has been a force since. Over his last five games, Flowers is averaging 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds, including a 26-minute, 10-point, 9-rebound effort in a loss to Indian Hills and a 16-point performance in a win over Highland.
For Wilbur Wright, guard Artis El is a player to watch, though he saw only one minute of action in the Rams’ 90-63 loss at Olive-Harvey on Feb. 3. The Rams’ offense has struggled consistently, failing to reach 65 points in any of their 13 losses.
Kankakee’s balanced attack and defensive pressure, which held Wright to 43 points last month, will be a primary challenge for the visitors. The Cavaliers have won four of their last five, with the only blemish being a road loss to a strong Indian Hills squad.
Following this game, Kankakee will hit the road for a matchup at Highland (Ill.) on Saturday. Wilbur Wright’s next chance for a victory will come on Feb. 19 at Richard J. Daley College.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kankakee Community College.
