SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Western Nebraska Cougars host the Otero Rattlers at Cougar Palace.

The matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 24 thriller, which Otero (3-15) won 84-82 at home. Western Nebraska (6-17) will look to avenge that narrow loss on its own court.

Both teams are coming off recent wins, a rarity in challenging seasons. Otero snapped a five-game skid with a 72-65 home victory over Lamar on Jan. 31. Western Nebraska earned an 87-76 road win at McCook on Jan. 28 before falling 84-79 to North Platte on Feb. 1.

A player to watch for Otero is Marquise Allen, who delivered a standout performance in the Jan. 30 overtime loss to Southeast, posting 33 minutes, 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. His role has fluctuated, but his all-around capability poses a threat.

Western Nebraska will counter with Amare Jackson, who has been a consistent contributor. He nearly recorded a triple-double in the Feb. 1 loss, with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 19 minutes, and had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the win at McCook.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring, even contest with a final score of Western Nebraska 100, Otero 100, suggesting a potential overtime finish similar to Otero’s recent game against Southeast.

The game is critical for both programs to build confidence ahead of their final regular-season stretches. Otero visits Southeast on Feb. 18, while Western Nebraska travels to Lamar on Feb. 11.

Tipoff is set for Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, in Scottsbluff.
