Trinidad State vs Western Nebraska

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Trinidad State Trojans visit the Western Nebraska Cougars at Cougar Palace.

The matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 23 game in Trinidad, Colorado, where Western Nebraska (6-17) secured a 96-88 road victory. That result is a focal point for both squads as they navigate difficult seasons.

Trinidad State (9-13) enters having snapped a three-game skid with a narrow 76-74 home win over Southeast on Saturday. The Trojans are led by forward Demorae Pritchett, who nearly posted a double-double in that victory with 12 points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes. Pritchett was also a force in the last meeting with Western Nebraska, scoring 17 points. His consistent production will be key for a Trinidad State team that has shown it can win close games, with four of its last five victories decided by three points or fewer.

Western Nebraska looks to bounce back from a 79-74 home loss to North Platte on Sunday. The Cougars have shown flashes, including their win in Trinidad and an 87-76 road victory at McCook on Jan. 28. Guard Amare Jackson is a player to watch for the Cougars; he contributed 10 points, six rebounds and four assists in the loss to North Platte and had a solid all-around game in the earlier win over McCook with 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Despite their sub-.500 records, both offenses have proven capable of high outputs, particularly in their previous encounter. Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, predicting a 100-100 tie.

For Trinidad State, this contest begins a challenging stretch of four road games in five contests. Western Nebraska, meanwhile, plays the second of a three-game homestand before hitting the road for three of its next four.

Tipoff is set for Wednesday night in Scottsbluff.
