Sauk Valley vs Southeastern

Preview: Skyhawks, Blackhawks Set for Rematch in Key Junior College Clash

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (Interstat) — A midseason rematch with potential postseason implications is set for Wednesday when the Sauk Valley Skyhawks visit the Southeastern Blackhawks in a men’s junior college basketball game.

The Blackhawks (11-7) will look to defend their home court and avenge a 78-62 road loss to the Skyhawks (9-7) from Dec. 3. That result stands as a notable blemish for Southeastern, which has otherwise been strong at home, and a signature win for Sauk Valley’s up-and-down campaign.

Southeastern enters with momentum, having won three straight games, including a 91-82 victory over Malcolm X on Saturday. The Blackhawks are led by versatile guard Prophet Fields, who is coming off a 21-point, 3-rebound, 3-assist performance. Over his last five games, Fields has averaged 13.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists, serving as a primary facilitator and scorer.

Sauk Valley aims to rebound from a lopsided 108-77 road loss at Indian Hills on Saturday. Despite the defeat, forward Ed Wiggins provided a bright spot with 13 points and 8 rebounds in just 20 minutes. Wiggins, a key interior presence, has recorded multiple blocks in three of his last five outings and will be central to the Skyhawks’ defensive efforts.

The Skyhawks’ season has been marked by streaks, alternating wins and losses in their last six contests. Replicating their December defensive success against Southeastern, where they held the Blackhawks to 62 points, will be paramount.

Southeastern’s offense has found a rhythm during its win streak, averaging 83 points per game. Alongside Fields, guards Jaleel Donley and Trevan Krumrei have provided consistent secondary scoring.

The matchup in the paint between Wiggins and Southeastern’s frontcourt, which includes contributors like Krumrei, could dictate the tempo. Sauk Valley’s ability to control the boards and manage turnovers, areas of struggle in recent losses, will be critical against an active Blackhawks defense.

Wednesday’s result will impact the regional standings and set the tone for both teams as they enter the final month of the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Loren Walker Arena.
