Lake Land vs Olney Central
OLNEY, Ill. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Lake Land Lakers visit the Olney Central Blue Knights.
The non-conference matchup pits struggling programs against each other. Lake Land enters with a 4-10 overall record, while Olney Central sits at 2-10. Both teams have faced challenging schedules within the robust Region 24 landscape.
The Lakers arrive with a measure of confidence after securing a 82-75 home victory over Lincoln Trail this past Saturday. That win snapped a two-game skid for Lake Land, which had previously fallen to Wabash Valley and Shawnee. The Lakers have shown an ability to score, averaging over 80 points per game in their last five contests, but consistency has been an issue. Their season includes narrow victories, such as a 75-74 win over Southwestern Illinois and an 89-87 road win at Kaskaskia, but also several double-digit losses.
Olney Central looks to halt a five-game losing streak. The Blue Knights are coming off a 91-78 road loss to Kaskaskia on Jan. 29. During their current slide, offensive production has often been a challenge; Olney Central was held to 57 points or fewer in three of those losses, including a 44-point outing against John A. Logan. Their two wins this season came against State Fair (78-75) and Kennedy-King (78-61).
Wednesday’s game represents a key opportunity for either team to build positive momentum ahead of difficult upcoming slates. Following this contest, Lake Land will travel to face John A. Logan on Saturday. Olney Central’s next game is also on the road Saturday at Lincoln Trail.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Central time at Dungeon Gymnasium on the Olney Central College campus.
