Lamar State-Port Arthur vs Trinity Valley

ATHENS, Texas (Interstat) — A rematch with playoff implications awaits when the Trinity Valley Cardinals host the Lamar State-Port Arthur Seahawks in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.

The Cardinals (16-3), one of the region’s top teams, will celebrate Alumni Day seeking to avenge a 61-55 road loss to the Seahawks on Jan. 17. That result stands as a bright spot in a challenging season for Lamar State-Port Arthur (4-9), which has lost three of its last four.

Trinity Valley enters on a high note after an 81-54 dismantling of Navarro on Wednesday. Braylon Wenger led the way with 25 points, continuing a stretch of explosive scoring. Wenger, a key player to watch, averaged 21 points over his last three games but was held to just 3 points in the previous meeting with the Seahawks.

For Lamar State-Port Arthur, guard Christian Andrews is the catalyst. He is coming off an 18-point, 5-rebound, 6-assist performance in a 68-56 loss to Lee on Wednesday. Andrews has been a consistent contributor, scoring in double figures in four of his last five outings where he saw significant minutes.

The Seahawks’ January win over Trinity Valley proved they can compete with the region’s elite, but consistency has been an issue. They followed that victory with losses to Angelina and Lee. Containing Wenger and the Cardinals’ balanced attack, which saw Armani Henderson post a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) last game, will be paramount.

For Trinity Valley, protecting home court is critical as they pursue a high postseason seed. For Lamar State-Port Arthur, another upset would provide a massive boost to their conference standing and season momentum. Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Cardinal Gym.
