Odessa vs Clarendon
CLARENDON, Texas (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Thursday night when the surging Odessa College Wranglers visit the struggling Clarendon College Bulldogs in a men’s junior college basketball matchup at Bulldog Gym.
Odessa (14-4) enters on a strong run, having won three of its last four games, including a 65-59 victory over Howard College on Jan. 22. The Wranglers’ offense has been potent, averaging 84 points in their last five contests.
The Wranglers are led by guard Ahmere Carson, who is coming off a 29-point performance against Howard. Over his last five games, Carson is averaging 17 points and 3.6 assists, showcasing a versatile scoring punch. He had 19 points and eight assists in a win over South Plains on Jan. 5.
Clarendon (4-10) seeks consistency after a season of narrow results. The Bulldogs snapped a skid with a 79-74 win over Western Texas on Jan. 22, but followed with a forfeit loss to Howard on Monday. Their season includes three overtime losses and several defeats by single digits.
The Bulldogs lean heavily on forward KD Davis, who has posted massive numbers recently. Davis is averaging 24.8 points and 11.5 rebounds over his last four games, including a 31-point, 11-rebound effort at New Mexico and a 22-point, 15-rebound double-double in the win over Western Texas.
Odessa won the teams’ first meeting last season, but this will be their first matchup of the current campaign. The rematch is set for March 2 in Odessa.
For Clarendon, the game represents a chance to build momentum before a difficult stretch that includes road games at South Plains and Midland next week. Odessa looks to maintain its winning form before hosting New Mexico on Feb. 2.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST.
