Arizona Western vs Central Arizona

Preview: Arizona Western Matadors at Central Arizona Vaqueros

YUMA, Ariz. (Interstat) — The Arizona Western Matadors look to solidify their position in the conference standings when they visit the Central Arizona Vaqueros in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Wednesday night.

Arizona Western (11-6) enters with a winning record but seeks to rebound from a narrow 94-90 overtime loss to Eastern Arizona on Saturday. The Matadors had won three straight prior to that defeat.

Central Arizona (7-10) aims to build momentum after a 91-84 road victory over Southern Nevada on Saturday, which snapped a two-game skid.

The game is a quick rematch of a Jan. 10 thriller, which Arizona Western won 89-85 at home. In that contest, Matadors’ forward Marsai Mason posted 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. Mason has been dominant lately, averaging 20.6 points and 10.2 rebounds over his last five games. He is coming off a 26-point, 11-rebound, five-block performance in the overtime loss.

The Vaqueros will counter with guard Tayshaun Jackson, who scored 25 points in the first meeting. Jackson has been a volume scorer, averaging 22.4 points over his last five outings, including a 29-point effort in a win over Yavapai on Jan. 17.

Arizona Western’s offense has been potent, scoring 83 points or more in four of its last five games. Central Arizona’s defense, which allowed 101 points in a loss to Eastern Arizona on Jan. 14, will be tested.

The Vaqueros will need to find an answer for Mason inside and limit second-chance opportunities to avenge their earlier loss and improve their conference standing. For the Matadors, containing Jackson’s scoring burst and executing down the stretch will be key after their recent overtime setback.

Tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, in Coolidge, Arizona.
