Western Nebraska vs McCook
McCOOK, Neb. (Interstat) — The McCook Community College Indians, riding a wave of momentum, will host the struggling Western Nebraska Community College Cougars in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
McCook (10-8) enters on a two-game winning streak following a tight 73-70 road victory at Southeast Nebraska on Saturday. The Indians have shown potent offensive capability, highlighted by a 121-point outburst against Trinidad State on Jan. 17.
The Indians are led by standout guard Nate Coley, who is coming off a 21-point performance against Southeast and a 30-point effort in a loss to Lamar on Jan. 21. His ability to score in volume makes him the focal point of McCook’s attack.
Western Nebraska (5-16) seeks to snap a three-game skid after a heartbreaking 82-84 loss at Otero on Saturday. The Cougars have endured a difficult stretch, with eight of their last nine games decided by single digits, including five losses by three points or fewer.
A key player for the Cougars is forward Dorin Nguema, who provides consistent rebounding and playmaking. Nguema is averaging 8.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists over his last seven contests, including an 11-rebound, 5-assist effort against Dawson on Jan. 12.
The game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the Region IX foes, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 18 in Scottsbluff. McCook will look to leverage its home court advantage and superior record, while Western Nebraska aims to reverse its fortunes in close-game situations.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Central on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
