Indian River State vs Santa Fe

Preview: Indian River State Pioneers at Santa Fe Saints

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to steady their seasons will meet Wednesday when the Indian River State Pioneers visit the Santa Fe Saints in a men’s junior college basketball matchup.

The Pioneers (6-8) enter on a two-game skid, including a 97-88 home loss to Eastern Florida State this past Saturday. Indian River State has shown offensive firepower but has allowed an average of 91 points in its last two defeats.

A key player for the Pioneers is forward Tamiel Green, who is coming off a strong double-double performance. In the loss to Eastern Florida State, Green posted 18 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of play. He also recorded a double-double in a win at Polk State on Jan. 17. Adam Squire led all scorers with 27 points in the Pioneers’ most recent game.

The Santa Fe Saints (6-5) also look to rebound after a 79-64 home loss to Florida Southwestern State on Saturday. Prior to that, the Saints had won two straight, including a road victory at Hillsborough. Santa Fe has been inconsistent at home this season, with a 3-4 record in Gainesville.

The Saints won the first meeting between these teams last season, but this will be their first matchup of the current campaign. They will conclude their regular-season series at Indian River State on Feb. 28.

Wednesday’s game will tip off at 7 p.m. Eastern at the Santa Fe Gymnasium. For Indian River State, it begins a tough stretch of four consecutive road games. Santa Fe looks to protect its home court before a road-heavy February schedule.

The contest features two teams with identical win totals but divergent recent paths, both seeking a crucial victory to improve their positioning as the season moves into its second half.
