Bishop State vs Coastal Alabama

Preview: Bishop State Wildcats at Coastal Alabama Sun Chiefs

MONROEVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking to halt extended slides will meet Monday when the Bishop State Wildcats visit the Coastal Alabama Sun Chiefs.

Both teams enter the contest with identical 3-11 overall records. The Wildcats are reeling, having lost eight consecutive games. Their most recent outing was a 101-86 home loss to Shelton State on Saturday.

Coastal Alabama snapped a two-game skid with a 78-69 road victory at Calhoun on Jan. 22. That win stands as one of the Sun Chiefs’ few bright spots in a season featuring several high-scoring defeats.

A key matchup will feature the teams’ top performers. Bishop State guard Tramello Carter is coming off a career-high 32-point effort in a narrow 84-83 overtime loss to Wallace State on Jan. 15. However, his production has been inconsistent, scoring just five and six points in his two games prior.

For Coastal Alabama, forward Makhi Jones is riding high after a dominant performance in the win over Calhoun, posting 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. His activity will be central to the Sun Chiefs’ game plan.

The Wildcats have struggled defensively during their losing streak, allowing an average of 92.6 points per game over their last five contests. Containing Jones and Coastal Alabama’s Josh Williams, who had 16 points and seven assists against Calhoun, will be a primary concern.

Coastal Alabama’s season has been defined by offensive fireworks at both ends, with the team both scoring and surrendering points in bunches. Their ability to leverage home court and build on their most recent win provides a sliver of momentum against a Bishop State team searching for answers.

Monday’s game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the schools. They are scheduled to play again at Bishop State on Feb. 23.

Tip-off is set for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.
