Wabash Valley vs Vincennes

VINCENNES, Ind. (Interstat) — The undefeated and No. 1-ranked Vincennes Trailblazers put their perfect record on the line Saturday when they host the Wabash Valley Warriors in a men’s junior college basketball matchup.

Vincennes (15-0) has dominated its schedule, winning by an average margin of 22.7 points. Their most recent victory was an 82-57 rout at Olney Central on Wednesday, led by standout forward Dayton Williams. The sophomore is averaging a double-double over his last three games, including a 24-point, 10-rebound performance against Olney Central. He is complemented by guard Drae Vasser, who dished out 11 assists in that win.

The Trailblazers’ high-powered offense, which has topped 90 points four times this season, will face a Wabash Valley team finding its footing. The Warriors (6-9) have won two straight, including a 66-59 home victory over Olney Central last Saturday. Guard DeMario Spear, who scored 13 points in a loss to Southwestern Illinois on Jan. 7, is a key backcourt contributor for Wabash Valley.

History heavily favors the home team. Vincennes has not trailed in the second half of any game this season and boasts wins over common opponents by significantly wider margins than Wabash Valley. The Warriors’ three-game winning streak from Jan. 10-17 followed a five-game skid.

The teams will meet again in Mount Carmel, Illinois, on Feb. 28. For now, the Warriors face the daunting task of solving a Trailblazers squad that has shown no weaknesses through the first half of the season. Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Physical Education Complex.
