Olive-Harvey vs Sauk Valley

High-Stakes JUCO Clash Set as Panthers Visit Skyhawks

DIXON, Ill. (Interstat) — A key early-season men’s junior college basketball matchup will unfold Saturday when the surging Olive-Harvey Panthers visit the Sauk Valley Skyhawks.

The Panthers (9-1), ranked in the latest national junior college athletic association poll, bring a potent offense and a nine-game winning streak into the contest. Their lone loss came on Dec. 11 at Kankakee. The Skyhawks (9-5) have been strong at home and are looking to avenge a narrow loss from earlier this season.

These teams met just over two months ago, with Olive-Harvey securing a 77-72 home victory on Nov. 15. The Panthers have not lost since their December setback.

Olive-Harvey is led by standout forward Browder Marcus, who is coming off a dominant 19-point, 13-rebound performance in a 77-67 road win at Highland (Ill.) on Jan. 17. In the previous meeting against Sauk Valley, Marcus’s contributions were pivotal. He is averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds over his last two games. He is complemented by guard Terrence Shannon, who scored 24 points in the last outing.

Sauk Valley counters with its own defensive anchor in Jermaine Jones. The forward is fresh from a critical role in a 59-58 road win at Marshalltown on Jan. 17, where he posted 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks. The Skyhawks’ defense has been stout, holding opponents to an average of 58.5 points over their last two games, both wins.

The Panthers’ high-scoring attack, which has averaged 86.8 points during their win streak, will be tested by a Sauk Valley team that has found a rhythm in close games. The Skyhawks’ five losses have come by an average of just 7.2 points.

Saturday’s result will have implications for the regional standings as both teams enter the heart of their conference schedules. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at Sauk Valley Community College.
