Hutchinson vs Garden City

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (Interstat) — A pair of Kansas junior college men’s basketball teams looking to steady themselves will meet Wednesday when the Garden City Broncbusters host the Hutchinson Blue Dragons at Conestoga Arena.

The Broncbusters (10-7) enter on a two-game skid, including a 90-82 road loss to Coffeyville on Saturday. Guard Jamir Westry has been a consistent catalyst, averaging 13.4 points and 4.0 assists per game. He is coming off a 19-point, 5-assist performance in the Coffeyville defeat.

Hutchinson (8-8) has lost four consecutive games, most recently a 73-60 home loss to Fort Hays Tech on Saturday. The Blue Dragons will lean on high-scoring guard Kyrell Shaw, who has averaged 22.3 points over his last four contests. Shaw erupted for 34 points in a loss at Pratt on Jan. 14 and 32 points in a defeat at Colby on Jan. 3.

Garden City won the season’s first meeting, 84-76, at Hutchinson on Nov. 19, 2025. The Broncbusters have shown a potent offense, scoring 122 points in a win over Colby on Jan. 14, but have also been vulnerable defensively, allowing an average of 90.5 points in their last two losses.

For Hutchinson, ending its losing streak will require finding support for Shaw. Bobby Cannon added 17 points in the loss to Fort Hays Tech, but the team managed only 60 points in that game after being held to 39 in a loss to Coffeyville on Jan. 7.

The game is a key regional contest for both teams as they navigate the second half of their conference schedules. Following this matchup, Garden City travels to Pratt on Saturday, while Hutchinson hosts Butler (Kan.) on Jan. 24.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CST Wednesday.
