Southern Crescent vs South Georgia Tech
Winless Southern Crescent Seeks First Victory Against South Georgia Tech
AMERICUS, Ga. (Interstat) — The winless Southern Crescent Tigers will look to break into the victory column when they visit the South Georgia Tech Jets in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday night.
Southern Crescent (0-8) enters on the heels of a heartbreaking 73-72 loss to Albany Tech on Saturday, a game in which the Tigers led late. South Georgia Tech (5-12) snapped a three-game skid with a 77-69 road win at East Georgia State that same day.
The Tigers’ hopes will rest heavily on guard Khaven Coachran, who is coming off a career performance. Coachran played all 40 minutes and scored 29 points with seven rebounds in the narrow loss to Albany Tech. He also logged 40 minutes and 15 points in a Jan. 14 loss to Gordon State. His production will be critical for a Southern Crescent team that has lost its eight games by an average of 26.5 points, though the last two defeats have been by a combined 10 points.
South Georgia Tech has struggled for consistency but found a winning formula on the road last weekend. The Jets will look to build on that at home, where they are 3-5 this season. A player to watch for the Jets is Guillaume Schoentgen, who provided a spark off the bench in a Jan. 3 contest, scoring 11 points in 31 minutes against Northwest Florida State.
The Jets’ offense has been volatile, scoring 53 points in a loss to South Georgia State on Jan. 14 before putting up 77 in their most recent win. Southern Crescent’s defense has allowed 90 or more points in four of its eight losses.
This matchup begins a key stretch for both teams in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association play. Southern Crescent continues its search for any positive momentum, while South Georgia Tech aims to climb back to .500 in conference action.
The teams will meet again in late February at Southern Crescent.
