Baltimore City vs Allegany (Md.)
Preview: Baltimore City Panthers at Allegany (Md.) Trojans
CUMBERLAND, Md. (Interstat) — The Allegany (Md.) Trojans look to continue their climb above .500 when they host the winless Baltimore City Panthers in a men’s junior college basketball game Monday night.
The Trojans (4-3) enter with momentum from a road victory, having defeated Harcum 89-81 on Saturday. Allegany has shown resilience, with its three losses coming by a combined six points, including a 90-88 overtime defeat at Harford on Jan. 7.
In that narrow loss, forward Christian Brown was a standout, scoring 19 points and grabbing seven rebounds in 29 minutes. Brown’s interior presence will be key against a Baltimore City squad that has struggled defensively.
The Panthers (0-5) are seeking their first win of the season after falling 85-77 to Harford at home on Friday. Despite the loss, guard Antonio Fliggins continued his offensive surge, scoring 20 points. Fliggins is averaging 25 points over his last two games, including a 30-point performance at Harford on Jan. 12.
Baltimore City’s season has been defined by offensive challenges, failing to score more than 78 points in any game. Beyond Fliggins, support has been inconsistent. Jamar Payen added 11 points off the bench in the latest loss.
Allegany won the teams’ only meeting last season, 83-73. The Trojans’ balanced attack, which has seen multiple players reach double figures in recent wins, will test a Panthers defense allowing an average of 88.4 points per game.
The game is the first of a home-and-home set this month, with the rematch scheduled for Jan. 27 in Baltimore.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Allegany’s Bob Kirk Arena.
