Palomar vs Cuyamaca

EL CAJON, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Palomar men’s basketball team will look to continue its winning ways when it visits Cuyamaca in a California junior college matchup Wednesday night.

The Palomar Comets (9-4) enter on a three-game win streak, most recently routing San Diego Mesa 109-67 on Saturday. The Cuyamaca Coyotes (6-8) seek to rebound after a 67-50 loss to the same San Diego Mesa team on Dec. 30.

Palomar’s offense has been potent, averaging 89 points during its current streak. A key catalyst is sophomore forward Isaiah Pomare, who is coming off a dominant 23-point, 12-rebound performance in just 27 minutes against Mesa. Over his last two games, Pomare has averaged 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds.

He is complemented by guards Tore-Andre Gray, who scored 22 points off the bench Saturday, and Benjie Nudo, who nearly posted a triple-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Cuyamaca has struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses in its last six contests. The Coyotes’ defense, which held opponents under 70 points in their last two victories, will be tested by Palomar’s high-scoring attack. Their offense must improve after being held to 50 points in their last outing.

The Coyotes have shown resilience at home, including a 62-57 win over MiraCosta on Dec. 19. They will need a similar defensive effort to slow down the Comets.

This game opens a critical stretch for both teams in conference play. Palomar will visit San Diego Miramar on Friday, while Cuyamaca travels to San Diego City.

Wednesday’s tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST at Cuyamaca College.
