Desert vs San Bernardino Valley

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (Interstat) — A struggling Desert College men’s basketball team will look to snap a five-game skid when it visits a surging San Bernardino Valley College in a California Community College Athletic Association matchup Wednesday night.

The Desert Roadrunners (3-10) have lost their last five contests, most recently a 96-91 home defeat to Mount San Jacinto on Jan. 3. They will face a formidable challenge in the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (10-5), who have won four of their last five games and are 6-1 at home this season.

Desert’s hopes will largely rest on the play of guard Lee’Tron Turner, who is coming off a 26-point, six-rebound, four-assist performance in the loss to Mount San Jacinto. Over his last three games, Turner is averaging 22.3 points per contest. He was supported by De’miem King, who posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Jayse Creavalle, who added 15 points and five assists in that game.

San Bernardino Valley enters with momentum from a dominant 97-70 victory over Copper Mountain on Dec. 20. In that win, the Wolverines showcased a balanced attack led by Jaden Riley’s 20 points and seven assists. Bryan Cabrera added 14 points and five assists, while Stanley Thomas III contributed 17 points off the bench.

The Roadrunners’ offense has shown flashes, scoring 91 and 102 points in two of their losses, but defensive consistency has been an issue. They will need to contain a Wolverines’ squad that has scored 85 or more points in six of their 10 wins this season.

This game marks the start of conference play for both teams. The Wolverines will look to protect their home court and build on their winning record, while the Roadrunners are in desperate need of a turnaround performance to right their season.

The teams are scheduled to meet again at Desert College on Saturday, Feb. 7.
