Redwoods vs Shasta
Redwoods Looks to Extend Winning Streak Against Struggling Shasta
REDDING, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Wednesday when the College of the Redwoods Corsairs visit the Shasta College Knights in a California community college men’s basketball matchup.
The Corsairs (11-6) enter riding a wave of momentum following a 75-69 home victory over Cuesta on Saturday. That win highlighted a resilient stretch for Redwoods, which has secured victories in four of its last five contests. The team has demonstrated offensive firepower, scoring 95 points in a road win at Fresno City and 99 in a home game against Mendocino earlier this season.
Conversely, the Knights (1-17) are mired in a profound slump. Their lone victory came via a 79-68 decision over Mendocino on Dec. 12. Since then, Shasta has suffered five consecutive losses, including its last two games by forfeit to Allan Hancock and Cuesta during a late-December tournament. Their most recent on-court result was an 85-67 road loss to San Joaquin Delta on Dec. 21.
The statistical disparity between the teams is pronounced. Redwoods has shown the ability to win on the road, including an 81-64 victory at Cuesta in December. Shasta has struggled defensively, allowing 97 points to West Valley and 90 to Las Positas during its difficult season.
Wednesday’s game represents the first of two scheduled meetings between the programs this season. They are slated to meet again in Eureka on Jan. 31.
For Redwoods, the contest is an opportunity to solidify its winning record and build confidence before hosting Butte on Saturday. For Shasta, it is a chance to halt a lengthy skid and find a positive result before a road trip to Siskiyous this weekend.
Tip-off is set for Wednesday night at Shasta College Gymnasium.
