San Mateo vs Ohlone

Top-Ranked Bulldogs Face Renegades in Key California Clash

FREMONT, Calif. (Interstat) — A compelling contrast in records and momentum will be on display Wednesday when the San Mateo Bulldogs visit the Ohlone Renegades in a men’s junior college basketball matchup.

The Bulldogs (12-2) enter as one of the state’s hottest teams, having won seven of their last eight games, including a dominant 70-42 victory over Lassen in their most recent outing on Dec. 31. Their only stumble in that stretch was a surprising 70-36 loss to West Valley on Dec. 20. San Mateo has showcased a balanced and stifling defense, holding opponents under 65 points in nine of their 12 wins.

The Renegades (8-6), however, carry their own wave of confidence after a high-scoring road trip to conclude 2025. Ohlone averaged 83.5 points in decisive wins over Lassen (72-53) and Siskiyous (95-71) last week. Their season has been marked by offensive explosions, including a 103-point game against San Joaquin Delta, but also by narrow defeats, with four of their six losses coming by single digits.

Wednesday’s game at Ohlone College tips off at 7 p.m. PST and represents the California conference opener for both squads. The statistical service Interstat projects a dead-even contest, simulating a final score of 100-100.

San Mateo will rely on its consistent formula of defensive pressure and efficient scoring. Ohlone will look to leverage its home court and potent offense to challenge the Bulldogs’ superior record. The outcome may hinge on whether the Renegades’ scorers can penetrate San Mateo’s formidable defense.

The teams are scheduled for a quick rematch in just over three weeks, on Friday, Jan. 30, at San Mateo.

For the Bulldogs, this begins a critical stretch against conference foes. They visit Chabot on Friday. The Renegades open a tough early slate, traveling to face Skyline on Friday before hosting De Anza on Jan. 16.
