Cabrillo vs Monterey Peninsula
MONTEREY, Calif. (Interstat) — A Central Coast men’s junior college basketball matchup with contrasting momentum is set for Wednesday night as the Cabrillo Seahawks visit the Monterey Peninsula Lobos.
The Seahawks (8-6) enter on an upswing, having secured a 76-70 road victory over Canada College last Friday. That win snapped a brief two-game skid that included a home loss to Skyline on New Year’s Eve. Cabrillo has shown a potent offense at times, scoring 86 points or more in three wins this season, but consistency has been an issue.
Meanwhile, the Lobos (5-11) look to halt a slide, having dropped their last two contests. They fell 81-75 at home to De Anza on Jan. 2 after a lengthy break following a 60-76 loss at San Mateo in mid-December. Monterey Peninsula has struggled to find a rhythm, with its last win coming on Dec. 12 against Merritt.
The teams’ records suggest Cabrillo holds the edge, but road games in conference play are never guaranteed. The Seahawks have a mixed 3-4 record in true road games this season. The Lobos will aim to protect their home court, where they are 3-5 overall.
This contest marks the beginning of California community college conference play for both teams. The schedule shows these programs will meet again in just over three weeks, on Jan. 30 in Aptos.
Key for Cabrillo will be carrying over the balanced effort that delivered the win at Canada. Monterey Peninsula will need to tighten its defense, having allowed 76 points or more in seven of its eleven losses.
Tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at Monterey Peninsula College. The game will be the first of a home-and-home series that could prove crucial in the regional standings as the season progresses.
