East Los Angeles vs Los Angeles Harbor
Preview: East Los Angeles Huskies at Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks
LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — Two Los Angeles County men’s junior college basketball teams with identical overall records but contrasting recent form will meet Wednesday when the East Los Angeles Huskies visit the Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks.
The California Community College Athletic Association matchup at Harbor College tips off at 7 p.m.
Both teams enter at 7-7 overall, but the Huskies (7-6) have won two straight, including a 76-69 home victory over Antelope Valley on Dec. 30. The Seahawks (7-7) snapped a five-game losing streak with that same 77-74 road win at West Los Angeles on Dec. 30.
A key player to watch is Harbor’s Kristian Jemerson, who fueled the Seahawks’ recent win with a season-high 28 points, six rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes. Over his last five games, the guard is averaging 15 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
East Los Angeles has shown resilience, bouncing back from an overtime loss to Saddleback on Dec. 19 with consecutive wins over Cuyamaca and Antelope Valley by an average margin of 12 points. Their offense has been potent in victories, scoring 81 and 76 points in the two wins.
Harbor will look to build on its momentum and protect its home court, where it is 4-3 this season. The Seahawks’ win over West L.A. was a narrow escape, suggesting defense may be a concern against a Huskies team capable of high-scoring outputs.
The Huskies’ upcoming schedule is road-heavy, making a win in this local rivalry important for early conference positioning. Harbor begins a stretch of three home games in its next four contests.
This game serves as a conference opener for both teams and could provide a critical tiebreaker edge as they navigate competitive South Coast Conference schedules.
