Las Positas vs Canada (Calif.)

HAWKS, COLTS SET FOR COAST CONFERENCE CLASH

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (Interstat) — A matchup of starkly contrasting trajectories highlights the California community college men’s basketball slate Wednesday as the surging Las Positas Hawks visit the struggling Canada Colts.

The Hawks (12-1) enter the 7 p.m. contest at Canada College as one of the state’s top teams, their lone blemish a narrow 71-69 home loss to San Jose on Jan. 3. Prior to that, Las Positas had won 12 straight, often in dominant fashion, with an average margin of victory of 31.5 points during that streak. Their offense has consistently been potent, scoring 90 or more points in six games this season.

The Colts (6-8), meanwhile, seek consistency. They have dropped their last two contests, falling 76-70 to Cabrillo on Jan. 2 and 68-64 to Marin on Dec. 30. Their season has been marked by swings, featuring blowout wins like an 86-46 victory over Gavilan alongside lopsided defeats such as a 99-73 loss to Butte.

Despite the records, a statistical projection suggests a potential thriller. Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a 100-100 draw, indicating the possibility of a high-scoring affair.

Las Positas will look to rebound from its first defeat, relying on the momentum of its powerful early-season run. For Canada, the game represents a prime opportunity to stabilize its season with a statement win against a conference heavyweight.

This marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will meet again at Las Positas on Jan. 30.

Following this game, Las Positas will host De Anza on Friday. Canada will continue its homestand against San Francisco on Friday.
