Saddleback vs Fullerton
FULLERTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Fullerton College Hornets delivered a dominant and historic offensive performance Wednesday night, overwhelming the visiting Saddleback College Bobcats 98-60 in a men’s junior college basketball game.
From the opening tip, Fullerton established a blistering pace that Saddleback could not match. The Hornets scored 49 points in each half, shooting a remarkable 61.7 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from three-point range. Their offensive efficiency was staggering, scoring 98 points on just 68 possessions for a rating of 144.1. In stark contrast, Saddleback managed only 60 points on 69 possessions, shooting 34.6 percent overall.
The game’s decisive surge came almost immediately. After Saddleback’s Mark Reichner opened the scoring with a layup, Fullerton responded with a 17-2 run over the next three and a half minutes, fueled by transition baskets and precise outside shooting. The Hornets’ Yoda Oke, the game’s top star, was instrumental in the early onslaught, hitting a three-pointer and two layups during the stretch. Saddleback called a timeout trailing 17-7 with 17:22 left in the first quarter, but it did little to stem the tide.
Fullerton’s offensive execution was nearly flawless. They assisted on 10 of their 37 field goals and committed only six turnovers. Their balanced attack featured five players scoring in double figures, led by Oke’s 23 points and nine rebounds in just 25 minutes. Kairi Shepherd added 13 points, while Trey Thompson and Brayden Smith each contributed 10. Point guard Jaedyn Patterson orchestrated the offense with 10 assists.
Saddleback, which fell to 9-6, struggled to find any consistent rhythm. Charlie Stallings led the Bobcats with 11 points, all in the first half, and Christopher Williams added 13 points. The Bobcats were hampered by 11 turnovers and were outrebounded 40-26, allowing Fullerton 14 second-chance points.
The most important part of the game was Fullerton’s initial explosion, which effectively decided the contest within the first five minutes. The Hornets’ ability to convert defensive stops into easy baskets and their scorching shooting percentage—they made 10 of their first 14 field goal attempts—built a lead that Saddleback never threatened. The Bobcats never got closer than 10 points after the initial run, and Fullerton’s lead ballooned to 38 by the final buzzer.
Defensively, Fullerton was equally imposing, holding Saddleback to 5-of-19 shooting from beyond the arc and blocking four shots. The Hornets’ defensive pressure contributed to Saddleback’s offensive rating of 86.6, a season low.
With the victory, Fullerton improved to 14-1 on the season, continuing its strong form following a 78-66 win at San Diego City on Dec. 30. Saddleback saw a two-game win streak snapped and will look to regroup when it hosts Irvine Valley on Friday. Fullerton travels to face Riverside in its next contest, also on Friday.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Jan. 30 at Saddleback. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Fullerton entered the game with a 97.4 percent probability to win, a projection borne out by the lopsided final score and statistical dominance.
