Mount San Antonio vs Compton
Preview: Mount San Antonio at Compton
WALNUT, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Mount San Antonio men’s basketball team, winners of six straight, will look to continue its dominant run when it visits Compton College on Wednesday night in a California community college matchup.
The Mounties (11-2) have been formidable, averaging 91.2 points during their winning streak. They are coming off an 88-60 rout of El Camino last Friday where Ethan Nelson posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes. Dayvon Gates added 18 points and six assists in the victory.
Nelson, a key player to watch for Mount San Antonio, has been a consistent force on the boards. Over his last five games, he is averaging 7.2 rebounds in just 17.6 minutes per contest, including a 14-rebound performance against Orange Coast on Dec. 29.
The host Compton Tartars (6-9) aim to build momentum after a decisive 89-47 win over Los Angeles City last Friday. That victory snapped a two-game skid and was powered by a career-high 33 points from guard Keyshawn Ross Jr., who also grabbed eight rebounds and dished three assists.
Ross Jr. is the focal point for the Tartars’ offense. In his last two outings, he has averaged 22.0 points, showcasing his ability to carry the scoring load. He will need similar production against a stout Mounties defense that has held opponents to 68.2 points per game this season.
The matchup presents a stark contrast in season trajectories. Mount San Antonio has lost only once since mid-November, a narrow 82-75 defeat at Santiago Canyon. Compton has struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses for much of the fall.
Following this contest, Mount San Antonio will host Cerritos on Friday. Compton will also play at home Friday, facing Rio Hondo.
Tip-off is set for Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at Compton College.
