Southeast vs Western Nebraska
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (Interstat) — The Southeast Bobcats and Western Nebraska Cougars, two teams on divergent paths, will meet in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday at Cougar Palace.
Southeast (4-3) enters with momentum, having routed Eastern Wyoming 102-74 in its most recent outing on Jan. 7. The Bobcats are led by PJ Newbill, who dominated that win with 21 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in just 22 minutes.
Western Nebraska (4-14) seeks to halt a four-game skid, most recently a 75-72 home loss to Lamar on Wednesday. The Cougars have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 88 points during their losing streak. Guard Kellon Harris has been a bright spot, averaging 17.5 points over his last four contests, including a 26-point performance at Gillette on Jan. 8.
Despite the records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a dead-even 100-100 final score, suggesting a potentially high-paced offensive clash. The Bobcats have shown explosive scoring capability, topping 100 points twice this season. The Cougars, while inconsistent, have also displayed offensive firepower, scoring 105 in a win at Casper on Jan. 7.
For Southeast, containing Harris will be key, while Western Nebraska must find an answer for Newbill’s interior presence. The Bobcats’ Carson Forsey, who scored 17 against Eastern Wyoming, provides a secondary scoring threat.
This matchup is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 14 at Southeast.
After this game, Southeast visits North Platte on Jan. 21. Western Nebraska begins a road trip at Trinidad State on Jan. 23.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.
