Marin vs Los Medanos
MARINERS, MUSTANGS SET FOR CONFERENCE CLASH
PITTSBURG, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Marin men’s basketball team visits a Los Medanos squad seeking consistency in a California Community College Athletic Association matchup Tuesday night.
The Mariners (10-4) enter on a two-game win streak, most recently edging Canada (Calif.) 68-64 on Dec. 30. Their record includes notable victories over Chabot (72-70) and Diablo Valley (93-92), but also reveals volatility with lopsided losses to Contra Costa and West Valley in November.
Los Medanos (5-9) is coming off its most dominant performance of the season, a 102-76 road win at Napa Valley on Jan. 2. That victory snapped a two-game skid for the Mustangs, who have struggled in close games, including an overtime loss to Contra Costa (98-92) and a one-point defeat at Alameda (79-78).
The game will be the conference opener for both teams. Marin’s offense has been potent, averaging 84.4 points per game in its 10 wins, but has been held under 70 points in three of its four losses. Guard play has been critical, with the Mariners securing several narrow wins late.
Los Medanos has shown a high-scoring capability, topping 90 points in five games, but has conceded 97 points or more in six of its nine losses. Its defense will be tested against Marin’s balanced attack.
The teams will meet again in Kentfield on Feb. 4. Following Tuesday’s contest, Marin hosts Merritt on Thursday, Jan. 8. Los Medanos travels to face Merritt on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST at Los Medanos College.
