Volunteer State vs Roane State

HARRIMAN, Tenn. (Interstat) — A pair of Tennessee junior college men’s basketball teams seeking consistency will meet Saturday when the Volunteer State Pioneers visit the Roane State Raiders.

The game tips off at 4 p.m. Eastern on Jan. 17, 2026.

Volunteer State (4-8) enters riding the high of a narrow 81-78 home win over Dyersburg State on Wednesday. That victory snapped a two-game skid for the Pioneers, who have struggled defensively, allowing 100 or more points in three losses this season.

The Pioneers are led by standout Auden Slaughter, who is coming off a dominant 32-point, 11-rebound performance in the win. Slaughter has been a bright spot, averaging a double-double over his last three contests.

Roane State (6-6) looks to bounce back from a tough 88-83 home loss to Chattanooga State on Wednesday. The Raiders have alternated wins and losses over their last six games, unable to string together consecutive victories since late November.

The Raiders counter with their own force in the paint, Adonai Mussie. He posted 18 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks in the recent loss, showcasing his two-way impact. His defensive presence will be key against Slaughter in a pivotal frontcourt matchup.

Historically, these programs split their regular-season series last year. They are scheduled to meet again in Gallatin on Feb. 28.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest is projected to be a tightly fought battle, ending in a 100-100 draw. Both teams will need to improve their late-game execution to turn the projection into a victory.

For Volunteer State, finding secondary scoring behind Slaughter will be crucial. Keniel Velez and Jailen Hardaway, who combined for 23 points on Wednesday, must contribute. For Roane State, limiting turnovers and supporting Mussie with perimeter scoring from players like Towan Siler, who had 23 points last game, will be the focus.

The game will be a test of which team can build momentum as the conference schedule reaches its midpoint.
